Meet the Artist

Katie Laux Brown

The artwork of Katie Laux Brown is a visual celebration of joy, connection, and the comforting warmth of shared history. Drawing deeply from nostalgic memories of growing up within a large, loving family, Brown creates vibrant paintings designed to evoke smiles and awaken the viewer’s own happiest childhood moments. Each piece serves as a narrative window into the universal experiences of belonging, playfulness, and familial love.

Brown holds a degree in Art History from the Herron School of Art & Design, a foundational background that deeply informs her understanding of visual storytelling. While her academic training focused on the historical continuum of art, her practice as a painter is entirely self-taught. This unique intersection of formal historical knowledge and intuitive, self-directed technical skill allows Brown to paint with a raw, authentic emotion that resonates directly with the heart.

A lifelong champion of community creativity, Brown owned and operated a dynamic "paint your own pottery" studio at the age of 22, fostering artistic expression in others early in her career. For the past 17 years, she has dedicated her life to shaping the next generation of creators as a passionate elementary art teacher. This nearly two-decade career in the classroom continually fuels her work, infusing it with the same sense of wonder, uninhibited imagination, and pure love for the creative process that children bring to the studio every day.
